Window Tinting FAQ
How long does it take to install film on my car?
It all depends on the number of windows that need tint as well as the type of car. Typical 4 door cars take about 1.5 hours. Removal of existing window film usually add 1 to 1.5 hours to an installation

Is automotive window film installed on the inside or the outside of the glass?
Window film is always applied to the inside of the automotive glass. There are exterior window films available for residential and commercial installations when interior installation is impossible or undesirable.

What film is legal for my car?

Laws pertaining to how dark you can tint your car windows vary from state to state. Florida's window tinting laws stipulate a visual light transmission (VLT) of no less than 28% on the driver and passenger windows of all vehicles, and a VLT of no less than 15% on most passenger vehicles. There are limits on reflectivity and windshield tinting. More information about Florida window tinting laws can be found at our informative blog post on window tinting laws.

What is the curing (drying) time for my new window film?
A films drying time depends on many factors including the type of window film, weather, humidity and sun exposure. Generally a solar film takes 30 days to fully cure, with thicker security films taking up to 60 days. During the drying process you may see a hazy/milky appearance as well as water pockets. This is a normal part of the drying process and is to be expected.

What are the benefits from tinting the windows on my home?
Installing window film in hour home or business will reduce up to 81% of the heat, cut glare, reduce fading and health risks, increase safety by holding holding glass together, enhance the appearance of your home or business windows, and eliminate 99% of the suns harmful UV rays.

There is a lot of heat coming from the eastern, western, and southern windows of my home and the AC unit is constantly running, will window film help?
Window tinting is one of the best ways to reject heat and reduce energy costs. High performance window films block up to 81% of the suns heat, drastically reducing energy loads on your air conditioning system. Our customers see an average ROI of just under three years!

How durable is my new window film?
Our high performance window film is extremely durable. It has a hard, durable, scratch-resistant coating designed to stand up to everyday wear. It will keep your windows clean and clear and is included in the lifetime warranty.

How do I clean my new window film?
Most household glass cleaners are safe for tinted windows. We recommend staying away from ammonia based cleaners. Vinegar, alcohol and other based cleaners are considered safe.

Is there a warranty for window tinting?
Yes. All of our automotive window films have a manufacturers lifetime warranty. Most of our residential and home window films have a lifetime warranty as well. Commercial window films have a warranty between 10-15 years.

Will window film kill my house plants?
No. Tinting your windows will not negatively affect your plants. In fact, some of your plants may actually do better. If you are concerned about a particular plant, try moving it to an area with less sunlight for a few days prior to installation and see how it does. The plants will most likely got through an adjustment period. Read more about this at our blog post about this subject.

Will solar films help to reduce fading?
Absolutely, solar film will reduce the risk of fading. Most films reduce 99.5% of Ultra-violet rays. However, there is a large misconception about the UV being the only causes of fading. In reality, only 40% of fading is caused by UV, the other factors being, 25% of heat, 25% visible light, and the other 10% is miscellaneous factors like age or quality of the product being effected.

Will window tinting make the room dark?

Not necessarily, many of our window films are designed to still allow the natural light to enter the room filtering out the harsh heat, glare and UV that causes damage. There are, however, specialty films designed to darken a room. We can help you decide which film works best for your situation.

Does window tinting make the glass safer?
Definitely, our safety and security window films are designed to add break strength to glass and hold broken glass together to prevent dangerous shards of glass from becoming airborne or exposed.  Broken glass and flying shards can cause severe injuries and even death to children, family members, pets, employees, etc..  Single, double and triple layer films provide effective protection from hazards ranging from accidents to windstorms and bomb blasts.

Are your installers certified?
All of our installers are certified, experienced, and receive extensive training.

I have blinds. Do I still need solar films?

Yes. While blinds are effective at reducing the amount of light in a room, they are unable to reduce the heat. This is because there is a gap between the glass and the blinds. Heat builds up in this area, and radiates through the blinds. Solar films reduce the heat at the source.

What does the warranty cover?
Most of our window films have a manufacturer’s lifetime warranty against bubbling, fading, peeling, delaminating, demetallizing and crazing. This goes for vehicles as well as residential and commercial. ALL of our warranties are not only for the lifetime of ownership, but nationwide.

Our there any rebates available from my power company for having window film installed in my home?
Yes! Progress Energy, Tampa Electric and Florida Power & Light offer rebates to residential and commercial customers who have one of our qualifying window films installed. We can help you choose the right film, meet the necessary requirements and fill out the rebate forms.

How is window film installed?
Our high performance window films are professionally applied by skilled, trained installers. Almost all of our films are designed to be applied to the inside of your glass.

The first step is to prepare the window area for the application; placing drop cloths on the floor protecting and/or moving furniture where necessary.

Next, the window glass is cleaned using simple cleaning solutions (usually with standard household glass cleaner) and stainless steel razor blade scrapers. Then the film is sprayed with a slip solution (detergent and water) for proper positioning, and applied to the window glass. Using a professional grade squeegee and following proper techniques, the application is completed by removing excess water, trimming the edges, and a final squeegee technique to dry the edges.

Why should I have window film installed in my commercial building?
Most often, our commercial customers will have window film installed for tenant comfort and justify the purchase through energy cost savings. Some of the biggest reasons to have window film installed in your business or commercial building is to lower heating and cooling costs, lower utility demand, receive utility rebates, improve comfort for tenants, improve aesthetics and create a uniform appearance, improve safety and security, extend the life of A/C equipment and it is one of the most cost effective ways to increase building comfort without adding more expensive A/C equipment

Will Window Films stop my furnishings from fading?
Nothing completely stops fading. Our Window Films are designed to help reduce the major causes of fading (ultra violet light, visible light, and solar heat), thus prolonging the life of your furnishings, perhaps as much as two to five times.

Keep in mind the article(s) to be protected; if they have a typical life of five (5) years then they may last ten (10) years to much longer depending on the performance of the film selected. However, if the typical life is only 2-3 weeks, then the expectation should be expressed in terms of months.

As a general rule of thumb, ultra violet (UV) is approximately 40% of the cause, visible light is about 25%, and heat about 25%. The remaining 10% can be attributed to humidity, pollutants, interior lights, dye stability, and more.

Are Safety & Security Window Films hurricane-proof? Bullet-proof? Burglar-proof?
No, Safety & Security Window Films are not hurricane-proof, earthquake-proof, bullet-proof, bomb-proof, nor burglar-proof. Again, they are designed to make the window glass more shatter-resistant.

In the event of a windstorm, these films may have significant safety and security value. They can reduce the risk of injury from flying shards of broken glass, and possibly help prevent debris and water penetration through the window depending on the severity of the storm (and the type of glass, framing system, size and velocity of objects, and more).

In an earthquake, these films can reduce the risk of serious injury from flying shards of broken glass, and possible prevent glass from falling out of a home or building. Again, much may depend upon the severity of the quake (and the type of glass, framing system, and more, too).

Bullets: these films are not designed to stop bullets.

Our Safety & Security Window Films were originally developed to address international concerns and needs for improved safety and security against terrorist acts of bombings. These films can significantly reduce the risk of serious injury from flying shards of glass due to blasts, however, much depends upon the severity of the blast and the proximity of the window glass to the blast (and glass type, framing system, and more too).

Our Safety & Security Window Films are a low profile, high performance measure of security in the battle against 'smash and grab' crime. The tough, shatter-resistant qualities of the film can hold the window glass together even if a brick (or similar object) were actually to pass through the glass. The thief must now make a choice; continue to attack this window, try another window, or move on. Time is short, and often they move on. However, if they are determined to gain entry, they will get in.

What is Smart Tint & Smart Film?
Smart film, also called Switchable film, or Smart Tint, is an electric liquid crystal film that can turn on and off with the flick of a switch. It can also be controlled using dimmers, remotes, temperature controls, light levels, sound and more. The Smart Film is capable of adjusting light between a transparent and an opaque state with AC power. New (3rd) generations of the film can be directly installed on existing windows with Day-Light-Curable glue or self-adhesive. It combines many functions together, such as light adjustment, UV and infra red blocking, advertising and security.

One of the advantages of Smart Film is that it eliminates the need for blinds, shades or window treatments. It can also be projected on which creates stunning displays and advertisements.
